Here is the tentative itinerary for the Ecuador 2009 Tour II
Ecuador Tour II - New for 2009 (tentative, subject to change)
Day 1 - We will fly to (or meet in) Guayaquil.
Day 2 - Our day will be filled with photo ops in and around Guayaquil, for churches, architecture, people, and more. If conditions permit, night photo ops will be utilized. Photo sharing is planned, as well. All meals and transportation are provided. Overnight in Guayaquil.
Day 3 - Cuenca is a marvelous colonial city and we will travel in our own bus to explore the photo ops in and around the city. Views of the town and valley will be utilized, conditions permitting. All meals and transportation are provided. Overnight in Cuenca.
Day 4 - Ingaparica in Ecuador are the the best preserved Inca ruins. They present unusual photo ops. All meals and transportation are provided. We will overnight in Cuenca.
Day 5 - Nariz del Diablo Train (Devil's Nose) is a special photo op that goes between Riobamba and Alusia. You will be able to sit atop the rail cars for magnificent scenery and photos of the geological formations - especially the Devil's Nose! Conditions permitting, there are excellent views of Chimorazo Volcano. All meals and transportation are provided. We will overnight in Riobamba.
Day 6-7 - Banos is one of Ecuador's best geothermal spa locations. We will spend two days, enjoying the spa (optional at extra cost), hiking, photographing birds, wildlife, scenics and more. All meals and transportation are provided. (next page)
Day 1- The group will travel to Quito, Ecuador. You may meet the group in Rochester, NY, along the way, or in Quito, Ecuador. We will guide you through customs and immigration in Ecuador and we will spend the night at an excellent Quito hotel.
Day 2 - Quito, Ecuador. We will visit the historic old city of Quito, one of the largest areas of Spanish colonial architecture in Latin America. With its magnificent churches and splendidly preserved buildings, we step back in time to a bygone era. Our tour will be comprehensive, but not rushed. We will spend the evening in Quito, recently named #15 of the 53 top places to visit in 2008 by the NY Times.
Day 3 - We will travel 1.5 hours north of Quito to Otavalo and La Casa Sol. This hillside Andean hideaway was constructed in the traditional adobe style and is a creative masterpiece. <http://lacasasol.com/casaotavalo/index.html>. The afternoon will be spent relaxing in the pastoral surroundings of the weaving town of Peguche and hiking to a delightful waterfall, an area highlight.
Day 4 - Otavalo, Ecuador. Colorful photo ops abound in the largest, most important indigenous market in Latin America, brimming with colorful hand-made items such as hammocks, rugs, tapestries and shawls as well as wood and stone carvings. A tour of the local indigeneous community and artists is planned. We spend the evening at La Casa Sol.
